A_TiffyFit's Booklikes

I probably won't blog here as much as I do on my actual blog, A_TiffyFit's Reading Corner. But I'm sure you'll see me here often enough! Don't be shy. Say hi! Tell me what you're reading!

Rising - Holly Kelly I requested a review copy of this (okay, I begged) and was granted it and then I read it all in one sitting and am waiting until I can re-read it again. This book releases in 2 days and you, too, will be able to enjoy Xanthus & Sara.

The prologue opens with a woman giving birth and not one, but two nurses fainting dead away when they see the baby. And then chapter one opens twenty years later...

Sara is in a wheelchair thanks to her disfigurement (her legs...which, of course, are not legs but a tail!) Xanthus is on a mission from King Triton to find and punish those polluting the oceans and killing off sea creatures and Dagonians alike. Imagine Xanthus's surprise to find one of his own on land...

The chemistry between Xanthus and Sara is immediate. He is an overwhelming presence and Sara knows not what to make of him. I loved how Xanthus has this protective attitude that he just can't seem to help and sets about making sure Sara is safe. Sara's BFF is so happy for her; it was so sweet to see a friendship between women that wasn't catty.

I was livid at Xanthus's mother, enamored of his sister, ecstatic of Sara's parentage, and disgusted by the evilness that is Xanthus's brother, Gael, and his father. Just pure maliciousness poisoning the waters there!

The ending is incredibly satisfying and, after much turmoil, a HEA. I love mermaid tales, paranormal fantasies, romances, and books with action, a woman who doesn't melt into her lover's demands/opinions, and a man who adores and takes care of his woman. This has it all. By far the best mermaid tale I've read yet, I want this to be a series. A long series, exploring different characters with Xanthus & Sara popping in and out.

This is from Clean Teen Publishing and the romance is just that, clean. But you know...I was not expecting it to steamy! The sexual chemistry and tension was nearly palpable! Oh, and the epilogue. OMG MS KELLY! I know this is releasing in 2 days, but PLEASE tell me you have more written in this world?! Pretty please?
Keeper of the Lost Souls - Kristy Centeno Review to come. Really enjoyed!
When the World Was Flat (and we were in love) - Ingrid Jonach Review to come.
Heavy Metal - Natalie J. Damschroder One of the things that I like best about my kindle is that I CAN'T flip the book to re-read the synopsis when I am reading a book. I find myself pleasantly surprised, more often than not, as I'm reading by how much I am enjoying the book. My kindle is also breaking me from my cover habit. I DO judge books by their covers: the covers are what draws me in to pick it up and flip it over and read the blurb. This cover did exactly the same thing. *Fans face* Mmmm paranormal romance, hot body, why is his hand smoking?!

This was an unexpected delicious read from Entangled Publishing, one of my favorite publishers in their many hats (Covet, Bliss, Teen, Indulgence, Edge, etc). Unexpected because I wasn't expecting the offer to read it!

Now, I have not read book 1 in the Goddesses Rising series, but luckily I did not have to. The history of Sam (and Quinn and Nick) are nicely summarized for you in the course of the story. I liked Riley; she's feisty and strong enough to look for help when she needs it. The attraction between her and Sam is subtle, but intense at the same time. The plot moved steadily forward and the ending leaves you wanting more. This is not a cliffhanger ending, but the main plot threads are ready to be continued!

I did want to know more of the history of the goddesses so I will be picking up book one. There is some explanation, but not full enough in this book to satisfy me! I'm insatiable, what can I say? I found the powers to be interesting and look forward to Riley discovering more of her powers now that the immediate threat is at an end and she can test with someone like Quinn. At least...I hope that is what lies in store further in the series; Riley & Sam making an appearance like Nick & Quinn in this one!

A thoroughly enjoyable quick-read paranormal romance.

The Witches of Dark Root - April Aasheim Review to come. Book tour!
Wings of Arian: The Solus Trilogy - Devri Walls I had not heard of this series before this tour and was given a chance to review. I chose to review the first book in the series (because who would ever start at the end and work their way backwards, right? =P ). Also, I'm one to judge a book by its cover (as in, should I read this? Should I sign up for the tour? Should I buy it?) and this cover has "READ ME, TIFFANY" all over it! Luckily...it lives up to its cover!

This is a WONDERFUL start to a sword and sorcery YA fantasy series that winds its way into your subconscious and has you thinking about it when you have to step away for daily life, you know like making dinner, washing your hands, etc. :) I was smiling while thinking of the snark behind some of the characters, like Arturo!

I wasn't sure that I was going to like Kiora as she seemed so insecure about her being the Solus. She quickly wins me over with her great empathy, tender heart, honesty, loyalty, and desire to do no harm. Her self-doubt can start to get annoying at times, but she IS only 16 and she has the weight of the WORLD on her shoulders.

Prince Emane, I thought for sure he and Kiora would fight the ENTIRE book when we first met him in the beginning, but I was pleasantly surprised at how mature they both were rather quickly as they grasped what lies ahead of them. And then of course it develops into more.

There are magic-users, shape-shifters, pegasus, dragons, fairies (well, Guardians, I wouldn't want to upset them!), ancient evil, a magical book, and a journey that is amazing as both Emane and Kiora train and learn their abilities and prepare to take on the dark evil. I found the premise that the kingdom and its people have no idea what evil is, no lying, no fear of thievery, abuse, murder, rape, etc. A wonderful utopia, no? Of course...until evil awakens again.

I liked the cast of characters, especially the dragon and the pegasus. I don't want to go into the plot more as I don't want to ruin it for you, but I am itching to get to book 2 and 3 as soon as I can! If you like fantasy of the sword and sorcery kind, that includes dragons and pegasus and magic, with a touch of sweet romance, pick this up!
Keeper of Reign - Emma Right oops forgot to say I finished. Review to come with tour!
Deidre's Death (Rhyn Eternal, #2) - Lizzy Ford I'm reading this along with the book club. This is the read for the week. And I'm utterly at lost as to what I WANT to happen. There are love triangles and then there are LOVE squares with twists and ties and strings all around.

These characters of Ms. Ford's are leaping off the page and shaking their fists at me. I want to strangle them, hug them, soothe them, smack them, scream at them, commiserate with them, smack them again, and then...I have no idea how I want this to end.

The title has nothing to do with what I thought was going to happen and I could've smacked myself for being dumb and not seeing the double entendre or expecting it. Duh duh duh.

Crap, what do I want to happen in Darkyn's Mate? I DO NOT KNOW. All I know is, that's next week's read and I'm trying to be good and not read ahead until after discussion tomorrow anyway. :)

I want Harmony to get hers. That is for sure. I cannot stand betrayals and traitors. Darkyn has so much depth that I do not want him to get screwed over. I can't stand past-Death's cavalier attitude towards humans and those she stomps on in her path, but she's now learning what it means to be human and regretting what she can remember so she's developing. Gabriel, poor poor Gabe. He's all kinds of confused. And Deidre...and Darkyn...and Gabe...and other Deidre...and GAH!
